KAITLIN CONGO 2/14

"Record me in your book. As the Persian poet says: 'Man's life is brief and transitory, Literature endures forever." (pg. 22)

This passge from The book, "The Places In Between," seem to be a reoccuring question for Rory Stewart, taking his journey across Afghanistan on foot. Many people Stewart comes across want to know if he's jotting down everything that happens on his journey. Along with everyone who has come into contact wtih him in the midst of this journey, they all want to be mentioned. They all want to be a prt of this book they know is going to be created from such a journey. So clearly, by this book being written, Stewart DID come back and write a book about this adventure on foot he took over a decade ago, and not only that, but he too mentioned to a certain extent, the ones who wanted to be mentioned. Thus, this is a picture of a person writing, which is supposed to symbolize Stewart writing this book. Stweart wanted his journey to be documented in his own words and be able to last forever in his own words...just like the Persian man had said.
