Carly Gaffney Blog #3

"The local tavern owner had never served him and couldn't care less. But up in his room the ash trays had been full of butts and there were two empty cartons in the garbage and anyone who smokes that much had to pick up cigarettes somewhere."

Smoking is a favorite past time. It is a way to be social. This picture of camel cigarettes by Edward Steichen are a group of cigarettes. Some smokers consume those many cigarettes in a day. The amount of cigarettes can imply a habit. The tone of the picture is dark so the image is not sending consumer the message as something someone would want. When I think of cigarettes I think of physically how they effect a person. I see yellow stained teeth, black nails, and can smell the stench of the cigarettes on the breath and clothes. Cigarettes are associated with cancer and other respiratory problems. In the book (quote) cigarettes are common-something you will always see along the street.
