"Austin saw deep grooves in the underside of the brain. The grooves were a sign of rupture of the brain: The brain had literally almost burst. It had changed shape as it puffed up and died."

In this part of the book Austin and Dr Dudley are examining the body of the first victim of this virus to try and figure out what could've caused this. After going through the body and noticing many strange things about it they examine the brain. Just the imagery of having to cut of the scalp of a human to examine the brain is pretty intense. This quote is important because with this examination it has helped these 2 begin to understand what this virus is actually doing to the human body. The picture seems to be of a regular human brain. I used this picture because it helps to understand how messed up the brain in the quote seemed to be and helps to paint the picture better in one's mind.
