SARAH JACOBY BLOG POST #11/13

"People with a high tolerance for boredom can get a lot of thinking done."

I really liked this quote because it presents an interesting way to view thinking. Surprisingly this quote makes a lot of sense; when we get board our brains shut off- we stop listening or paying attention. People who can tolerate thinking about a variety of subjects without losing interest can accomplish a lot more thinking. Modern society seems to have increasingly shorter attention spans due to TV making us have ridiculously high expectations for entertainment. Many of us can barely sit through an hour long TV show without getting bored, perhaps this is way many TV shows are even shorter in length, many only half an hour. We should challenge ourselves to stay focused for longer periods of time, we should not give in to the boredom. Albert Einstein is the one the best people at tolerating boredom; this is demonstrated by the mass amounts of thinking that he was able to accomplish in his life.
