BRIAN STANIS POST 10 OF 13

"Carol Sears described her independence as if it were a conic disease or allergy that flared up now and then to bother her."

Elaine's quote not only proves a point but brings imagery to the readers mind. By saying that the newly found independence is like an allergy she imposes problems and nuisances brought about with allergies as the same with women's independence. As with any allergy people become bothered and frustrated for only a short period of time. However with the new independence of women this bothering action behaved slightly different. It faced with women with social problems, though short term, that they had never had before, therefore much like allergies "short term." This picture not only shows a woman but also one facing this small nuisance and overcoming it.
