Hessa Al Rumaihi Blog # 9/13

"I could see the whites of her eyes, so glistening and pure. Her painted mouth let loose words like a tiny breeze in a monotone." (pg. 141)

When I first read the quote, the first thing that popped in my head was this Afghani woman thats known for her unreal eyes. Pandora, the main character of the book describes the priestess's eyes when she visits the temple and her description was very detailed noticing every tiny detail of the woman's face. The girl in the picture was shot in 1984 by a famous National Geographic photographer known to have the most beautiful eyes in the world. This picture was shot when she was only 12 years old, the colors of her eyes are very unusual and different. The quote above best fits this picture, with the whites of her eyes clearly showing and the colors and the look she is giving can say a lot about a character or person. When it comes to analyzing people, you can tell a lot from their expressions and the way they look at you. From this picture, you can tell that this young woman has been through a lot, and after reading about her, i came to realize that she was orphaned during the Soviet Union bombing of Afghanistan and was later sent to a refugee camp in Pakistan in 1984, the year the photo was taken. I find this picture one of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen before and thought I wanted to share it because it best fit the quote.
