CECILIA EVANS-11 of 13

"We live" writes Pursewarden somewhere "lives based upon selected fictions. Our view of reality is conditioned by our position in space and time--not by our personalities as we like to think. Thus every interpretation of reality is based upon a unique position. Two paces east or west and the whole picture is changed."

We all are delusional, to a greater or lesser degree, because it is natural to have desires and want so badly for them to become reality. What we see is based upon our own experiences, good and bad, and is not so much a result of our inmost tendencies as we imagine. Our every perception of reality is derived totally from our position in the universe. If we but move a little, here or there, we see a transformation in our viewpoint and therefore in our lives.

The image, created by artists Kristin Jones and Andrew Ginzel, is a photograph of two people standing on a detail of a terrazzo with solar system images, illustrating how we can create change simply by changing our position. It's title is "Principia" and may be related to an organization called the Discordian Society, which counts as its members philosophers, theologians, magicians, scientists, artists, clowns, astrologers, trippie hippies and similar maniacs, that is eccentric free-thinkers.
