In the context if the novel it is referring to the characters talking about giving up things. How they must waist their resources now because they didn't plan for the future and save. Relating to the quote how they have to go through all this pain of paying off dept while trying to remember how things were. It is so hard when the present is what is the pain. The picture I picked represents pain while trying to find that sweetness and love. The picture is dark and has shadows all around, the models posing are not smiling yet they are holding each other. When I view this picture I see how they are trying to hold on to each other to forget all the bad things that may surround them. They have a dark presence that doesn't deem much happiness. The picture is simple but powerful, they have strong faces and body language. Pain is present while happiness is somewhere in the background trying to be found.
