Katie Faunce post #11

" Perhaps that complete peace which the death cell guard observed was nothing more than the hollow mask observed by the psychiatrist. Either way, the State executed a man who was already in many ways dead."

The guard described Jesse as looking like a "hollow mask". Empty inside, like he wasn't even living anymore. This reminded me of people that are suffering from extreme depression. I have had a situation close to my heart with a family member with depression. It was almost as if she was just as mask with nothing behind it. No emotions but sadness. She was hollow and told us that she had lost her dignity when she was diagnosed. The picture I chose is one of a man getting his head shaved. This reminded me of dignity lost. In the military they use head shaving as a way to make everyone the same and cut them down. They lose their pride and sense of themselves when they are just like everyone else. Jesse is loosing himself because of the actions he took. He is no longer who he was, he is just simply a mask.
