SARAH JACOBY BLOG POST #6/14

"The water was glassy and calm, still candy-colored in the afterglow of sunset."

This a beautiful quote that very nicely describes the appearance of the surface of the water. King incorporates both the calmness and color of the lake in this one sentence. I am always impressed how King can use so few words to describe something pristine and complex in nature. There is a significant different between calm water and water that is so calm it is like glass, so smooth you can see the sunset reflected in it. The candy colored glow of the water perfectly conveys the mood set by the time of day; again in so few words King conveys the entire appearance of the scene and perfectly conveys the emotion brought on by the scene. "candy-colored" also implies a sense of happiness, lightheartedness by the image of pastel colors one sees in their mind reflected in the water. I selected this image because it shows the level of calmness in the lake, it depicts not just how the water is calm but how it is calm to the point of looking like glass. This image also depicts the beautiful pastel color of the water reflected by the sky.
