CARINA DOMINGUEZ BLOG POST 6/14

"I was a college student doing this temporarily. But in truth, I didn't know how to relate to people other than sexually or intellectually."

In this passage the character Judy Helfand speaks about her job of being a prostitute and the relation it has to a college student's behavior. In our culture, college students are known to be party animals and very sexual. I thought it was interesting that she related prostitution to typical college students. Having random "hook-ups" is the experience that most college students have, just like prostitutes. Also, just like prostitutes, female college students are degraded and exploited when they act sexually. I chose this image because the first idea that comes to mind for me is a college party. It is no secret that alcohol and sexual behaviors correlate. Many sexual incidents (wanted or unwanted) happen when college students try to have fun on the weekends. Although it is rather extreme that Judy would connect prostitution and a college student' s sexual behavior, the idea seems to be true.
